Back in Town, Safe and Sound!
My five days at the ONE OF A KIND SHOW was a success!! Started right out of the gates with the sale of my MERMAID (Tina Leah) and a LION commision. Saturday was booming! Another great day, selling 3 more sculptures!
Not only did I break my financial goal, I also made so many promising connections. I feel that I have made some serious ground, and am well on my way to making some humongous advances in my career. Seems surreal!
I really have to take a minute to thank some very special people! Without their help this all wouldn't be possible! My husband Dave and son, Darius, Hannah, Dan, PJ, Andrea, and last but not least, Nicole! Everyone donated their time without question, and I am truly greatful for them! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!! Also I would like to thank everyone that came out to support me! It truly touched my heart!
I feel I am well on my way! Watch out ART WORLD!
Do or Die, Smile or Cry!
This is it, no turning back now!
So I'm finally ready. Months of sculpture building, booth preparing, and spinning ideas within my brain! Booking rooms, hydro, parking, sewing drapes, planning meals. Recruiting help, ordering prints and signs. And that isn't even the half of it.
I was late on booking a uhaul truck because I wasn't given a 'move in' date for the show until early March. Called for a uhaul and they had Nothing! PANIC MODE! Everyone that had boughten a house in the Niagara region was moving that same week! I wanted to rent the biggest truck, 26 feet, for one week. I had to settle for a 17 foot (only 14 feet inside) for two days! I've had to stream line my booth tremendously with last minute down sizing on everything! No hard walls in my booth now, only curtains. Can't bring some of my larger sculptures. But who knows, once I get the truck in the driveway, I might have to eliminate more bulk! Everyone cross their fingers for me that I have enough space for everything I have planned on bringing.
So just a last reminder that you can buy discounted tickets on my website here:
Hope to see everyone there!
Count down till show time!
You are looking at one of my first sculptures made in 2015. Gonzo is one of my favourites. This week counting down to the ONE OF A KIND SHOW... I gave Gonzo a 15 hour upgrade. If you have been following me, Gonzo had visible screws over his entire body. I have evolved the process into a unique method of screw concealment. It was a bit tricky to revise Gonzo since I was unable to use my method properly. But after the pain stakingly make shift process, he's a new stream lined version of the old!
So Gonzo will be representing my outdoor sculpture category. Since my booth is only 10x20 I have to limit the amount of large sculptures going to the show. TINA LEAH, the driftwood mermaid will be my giant WOW FACTOR, at my booth. With her exotic ostrich plumage and her intense intricate shell work, she will WOW and bring in the customers!
My booth will be located at M4. If you make it to the show, stop by and have a look. Maybe even lend a hand! Or keep us company. During the 11 hour days we will welcome a new friendly face!!
My helpers for the event are as follows:
Set up: Dave, Darius
March 29: Dan, PJ
March 30: Dan
March 31: Dan
April 1: Andrea, Nicole
April 2: Nicole
Tear Down: Dave, Darius
I am so thankful for these people for stepping up and helping during this long stay in Toronto!
We will be staying at the posh Hilton Garden Inn! High style living for this dream event!
Hope to see you all at the Show!

I'm still here, buried in wood!
Sorry I haven't written a blog in a while. I know it's no excuse, but I've been extremely busy building and preparing for the ONE OF A KIND SHOW. For those of you that don't know...it's a Toronto artisan show, taking place from March 29th to April 2nd, at the Exhibition Place, Enercare Center. You can find promo codes on my EVENTS PAGE for tickets to come!
This show is a pretty prestigious thing! My art application went through a jury to be able to show at this special event. I also won the NEW ARTISAN SCHOLARSHIP that was just over 2 Grand! So I'm pretty excited, to say the least!
I've been building a lot of new stuff that hasn't been posted on either my website or Facebook. So a lot of you probably think that I have dropped off the map. I wanted this show to have a huge impact, so all the new items will be posted on my website after the show!
I hope to see you all there!
So people have been contacting me, wondering which booth number I am at the Christmas ONE OF A KIND SHOW. Answer: Wrong show. I'm scheduled to be at the SPRING One of a Kind Show. March 29th to April 2nd.
I went on Tuesday for a booth building orientation at the Enercare centre building, and got to see the Christmas Show in mid construction. The building where the show is hosted is a monster! Holding over 800 One of a Kind Artisans! It was a bit intimidating! The booths were amazing! Unbelieveable creative work! Nervous to think that will be me in March!!!
I got some great ideas for my booth. And some of my ideas weren't even used, So my booth and my art will be original and One of a Kind!
Hoping everyone will have a chance to come out and see me, maybe even lend a hand while your there!
After booth building me and my husband wandered down to the Ripley's aquarium. Here's my favourite photo of the day:
This must be my week!! ONE OF A KIND HERE I COME!
I just received a phone call from Toronto... I've been selected, by a jury, to exhibit in the ONE OF A KIND SHOW, featuring one of a kind items in CANADA!!! Sooooo excited!!!
Not only that, I've qualified for the NEW ARTISAN SCHOLARSHIP, alleviating 50 percent of my booth cost. This is HUGE!!! When my booth was going to cost around $5,000!!!
The ONE OF A KIND SHOW will be in March 2017. Please mark a day on the calendar to come see me in TORONTO!!!
Amazing Night, Amazing People! All Artists Must Experience This Next Year!
So I've had the night of my life at the ETA Awards in Toronto. I won THRIVING ARTIST 2016! All your help and votes in the poll rounds have been so appreciated!
I don't like to bring up negativity, but I feel like I need to explain a bit about what happened on the weekend since there were a few negative posts on my Facebook. One artist wasn't happy with my win. Long story short, the curator of the awards told me I needed to accept the award and enjoy it and that I deserved the Award 100%!! So I'm going to!!!
We stayed at the Toronto Hilton, which was amazing in it's self!! We ate and slept like kings and queens!
I worried so much about parking the giant uhaul, but after a few rounds of neighbourhood scoping we were able to park pretty close for the night FREE! On the other hand the hotel parking for our second vehicle was $48!! Unbelievable for one night!!
I went to the Awards as Harley Quinn. The costume was a hit. One of the artists had a large painting of "Harley Quinn destroys Toronto". One of the photographers had to have the picture of me and the artist with the work. "Kind of a cool pun".
I met so many amazing, genuine, positive people. It blew me away! I was wondering when I first joined this group, if I would be an outsider, not fitting in. Instead I met so many like minded people!! I connected with them instantly, like lost brothers and sisters! So full of light!
I had the most wonderful evening in spite of the previous glitch, that I would love to volunteer next year to help in the festivities. I would love more artists from this area to apply, to exhibit, and to experience what I had the honour to experience Friday night!!!
Here's the artwork I was honoured to be photographed with!!
Come Support Me at The ETA Awards!
As the ETA awards narrow in on 2 weeks away, there have been many things that I need to prepare for. Being the Awards are in downtown, congested, wall to wall trafic Toronto, much preparation regarding transportation of my work, hotel rooms, costumes, and many other details need to be addressed.
I've rented a pretty big uhaul to transport my art. This seems all fine and dandy until you start thinking about details. Such as, where the f*** do you park the thing when the gala is going on. It's hard enough to find a space for a car, can you imagine a 26 foot truck? Super stressing about that one!! Plus where do you unload such a big payload at the venue?? Is there loading docks? Large enough doors for my work? And not to mention, how to secure the sculptures in the cabin so they won't get damaged. All to be worked out on location I guess!! STRESSING!!
Now the gala is super hero themed! The artists are to be dressed up like super heroes (which we are) lol. I've decided not to go with a traditional superhero costume but to vary from the norm. If anyone knows me, I'm an ARMY GIRL! Who is more than deserving of the title SUPER HERO than a member of the army? A REAL LIFE SUPERHERO!
Everyone has been asking me if I've made the final 3 for THRIVING ARTIST. Answer is... I don't know. Nothing has been posted on the status. And to be honest with you, it's been driving me crazy!!!
So if your looking for something to do OCTOBER 21st. Come join me and my newly found friends for an evening of superheroes and art. And if I make the final 3 for Thriving Artist, you may join in for a LIVE VOTE, to help me try to secure the title!!

SW, ETA, QEW, And WTF?
The other night I headed up to Toronto to the SW (Super Wonder Gallery) for the preshow of the ETA awards. This was the "meet and greet" for the participating artists. It was also a gallery showing of all the nominated art for the awards. The peacock was representing me for THRIVING ARTIST and the horse head DAUNTLESS was nominated for the category "Innovation". The night was unlike anything I had ever participated in. People were dancing, drinking and having fun. I've always thought that a gallery showing would be stuffy, reserved and nerve racking. Quite the contrary! I forgot my Michael Kors and my Gucci at home, and it didn't matter!! It was a night of live music, live painting, and helpful seminars. The other artists were friendly and non competitive. Not what I expected at all! I really met some new friends!
And now the funniest story of the night. Driving home on the QEW we came up on a massive traffic jam. The signs were showing construction and the lanes were barely moving. At one point we sat in the middle lane for 20 minutes without moving! What is going on up ahead? An accident? Construction? We nudged along for an infinite amount of time. I started thinking about all the cars piling up behind us. By this time the traffic must be backed up to Pickering! Cars slowly started moving from the centre lane into the left lane. I decided to make the move to the left. We finally inched our way past what was holding the entire city up... A guy asleep, head back mouth open asleep, in his truck in the middle lane!!! Ok now wait, it gets better...so Now we were moving along a little better but it was still slow do to the construction pylons. About 5 minutes later a truck goes zipping by in the blocked off construction area. Whizzing by the entire traffic jam and butting in after he had gone as far as he could. Yep! The guy woke up! It was him!
Glitz and Glitter
This is MIKAYLA ECHO! Driftwood dolphin with wave. She's so sparkly! She's been glittered up from tail to nose with sparkles! My second attempt to alter the natural look of the driftwood. The first time was when I built the ALBINO RHINO for the albino rhino beer review desk. I painted the rino head with gloss white and it turned out amazing!
I named this sparkly dolphin after a little young lady that has been very helpful collecting driftwood for me. I wanted to do something different, special and girlie for this honourable name! She also has come to my house and has had a tour of "sculpture land". She's a dedicated follower and loves my work! She's an artist too! She does some pretty fabulous stuff for a young girl and I hope to be a great roll model for her. Her name is MIKAYLA BATEMAN. You can find her art page on Facebook at this link:
